To heal meaningfully is to initiate a process of self-justice—and it all begins in the body.Through the transformative practice of Kundalini Yoga—woven from breathwork, mantra, movement, meditation, and relaxation—I help people soften the edges of stored trauma, unwind long-held stress patterns, and return to the wisdom of their most intuitive selves.I also offer Embodied Writing workshops—an interweaving of Kundalini Yoga and creative writing designed to help us release the stories we hold in our bodies. My approach is informed by many years of feminist, anti-racist, climate justice, and Indigenous solidarity organizing. Whether through breath, language, or shared silence, my offerings are invitations: to shed, to remember, and to root into what’s real.

Maya Khamala is a certified Kundalini Yoga teacher (KYTT-300), Embodied Writing facilitator, (and writer!) who has made a habit of inviting people back into the wisdom of their breath, their body, and their voice. Her practice is guided by many years of community activism and a deep belief that self-justice is not only integral to personal healing, but is also a powerful force that ripples outward, positively affecting justice struggles everywhere.Maya carries the complex imprints of many worlds. Her paternal ancestry traces a tangled colonial path from India to Suriname. Her mother’s side hails from Eastern Europe to Quebec. Her Punjabi roots attune her to the presence of her forebears, felt across time. Although raised outside the boundaries of organized religion, her background weaves together Muslim, Jewish, and Hindu cultural lineages—a persistent inheritance of survival, ritual, and rhythm.Maya came to Kundalini Yoga not in search of awakening, but as a way of unwinding the long-term patterns that childhood trauma etched into her nervous system. What she stumbled upon was an unapologetic return to self and strength.
I teach regular Montreal Kundalini Yoga classes in NDG and the Plateau, where breathwork, mantra, movement, relaxation and meditation become tools for inner activism and transformation. My classes are courageous spaces—committed to self-justice as a pathway to collective liberation, and open to all bodies, backgrounds, and states of mind or heart. Curiosity and contradictions welcome.
